FIRST DRAFTINITIAL IDEAS:For my first double page spread I want to do an interview to a famous gymnast, that will be “ Scarlett” and talk about the recent competitions.
ARTICLE:Scarlett is the new golden girl. She has won in the last olympic games and she is looking forward to the next one in 4 years’ time. The recent gold has made her jump into fame very quickly and has become even more well-known around the world. It’s the first time that she reveals and tells her story and we are lucky enough to have her with us in Quantic. At the start of the interview we noticed she was very nervous so we did our best to help her feel relaxed and advised her to simply be herself. Throughout the interview we got to know more about her life and feelings. How did all started? Do you only practise Rhythmic Gymnastics? It all started when I was just a kid, at the young age of 6 and now I’m about to turn 24, I’ve been all my life involved in the world of sports, not only doing Rhythmic Gymnastics, tennis as well but when I had 12 years old my Gymnastics trainer told me I had to choose between one of them, she told me that I had to train more hours in order to get to the top level and that two sports were not combinable. I was young to take decisions but thinking that if I chose tennis I was not going to be able to practice Gymnastics anymore wasn't a possibility. It was a difficult decision but I don't regret it, I'm olympic game winner!!! hahahahaha There are few people who know about this sport at large, tell us about what goes on behind the competitions. It's true that the audience can only see the performance in the competitions but behind that, there are 7 hours of training every day excepting Sundays when we have the day off. It's a complicated sport where only few gymnasts can reach to the top level, we are only performing the dance 1:30 minutes that goes really quickly and there's only one chance of doing it right with no mistakes, if not all the time spent is gone. It's really unfair but is the way it is.... This sport is not recognized at all, football players are paid a huge amount of money that from my point of view they dont deserve. We train 7 hours a week if all goes right and we are paid anything, people recognize more other sports than the Rythmic gymnastics. What do you mean by“ if all goes right ”? Well I said that I train 7 hours a day but it really depends.. My daily routine sometimes has to change, I wake up at 6 o‘clock I have breakfast and I start to train at 7 o‘clock 2 hours, then I have University lessons next to where I train, but they are only for me, when I finish I have 2 hours to have lunch and relax but I sometimes spend that time studying.. In the afternoon I start to train at 5 o‘clock until 9 and here is when it comes the problem : I have to complete 4 dances with clubs, ribbon, ball and hoop each of them perfect if I want to have dinner, if not I need to stay more time training until it‘s all perfect… once I finish I have dinner and study time. This is my routine … Why did you pick Carolina Herrera, a Spanish designer to make your leotards? Well, my mother is Spanish and I know perfectly how to speak it and I understand it really well, Carolina Herrera is one of the best designers in ----------- and my mother is a big fan of her, I knew it will be a dream for my mother to meet her and see her daughter wearing one design of her. I also was very enthusiastic to wear something designed by her. The problem was that she didn't hear about this sport and the leotards we wear, when I met her (Something that was very difficult) and I explained her about the project she quickly accepted, she told me that it was something very interesting for her and for her career. It was going to be difficult but we both were very excited about the project, finally it came up really nice. How do you feel about many teenagers aspiring to be like you? It's incredible to see young girls as well as big ones wanting to be like me, when I was young my idol was Margarita Mamun from the Russian team and I can't believe that now I can be a idol for many girls. I always wake up thinking that I'm something important for some girls, everyday I receive lots of messages saying really nice things that motivate me to improve and to keep going. Some of them tell me I've got something that makes them disconnect from everything when I'm performing and that one day they would like to be like me. This not only sounds incredible it is! I really thank all that people that supports me everyday. You seem to be emotional, but let's change the subject, I'm very interested to know where did you learnt to make-up and comb like that. Really good question! I really don't know, when I started this sport I was amazed by the way our trainers make-up and comb us and by the time I was 15 I started to try myself when I had some time, I find it easy I suppose that all the years before I learn it without realizing hahahah. When we had the competitions in the morning we had to sleep already combed, I really suffered, I remember it horrible... Now I do it in my way without any suffer! With the make up, I started to watch videos in Youtube, I really liked it and I found it very interesting ! And what about keeping health ? It's very important to be in shape and to be constant, everyday I have to weigh and control I stay always with the perfect weight. In order to be professional you need to have a good body ( tall and thin) if not it's impossible to get a good position in competitions. It's something that the judges look a lot...... In our country is not controlled massively but in Russia where there this sport is really hard and disciplining they look a lot at what Gymnasts eat and their weight. I recommend all gymnasts to drink a lot of water during the trainings and each morning to drink a fruit smoothie It really helps to gather strength for the whole day. Unfortunately we have to stop here, the time has gone so quickly ! It was really interesting talking to you Scarlett I hope you enjoyed and you come another time if it is possible ! Thank you. Really !? Yes I hope so, there are many more things I would like to tell.. This is a really big sport that nobody knows about it….. Thank you for inviting me, and thanks to QUANTIC! INSPIRATION AND EXAMPLES:I looked at some examples of interviews in Rhythmic Gymnastics web pages to get some ideas of what types of questions I could ask and the possible answers.
